The Just King (Al Malik Al ‘Ādil) Nūr-ud-Dīn Ash-Shahīd Maḥmūd bin ‘Imād-ud-Dīn Zankī Al-Ayyūbī is one of the greatest figures in Islāmic History, to the point that some historians have included him amongst the Rightly Guided Khulafā, as the sixth of them.

Nūr-ud-Dīn was a just king, an ascetic, a worshipper, and a devout person. He would adhere to the Sharī’ah, incline to the people of goodness, and he was a Mujāhid in the path of Allāh. He would distribute charity in abundance, and build Madāris in all the major cities of Shām. His lofty feats, virtues, and glories that cannot be adequately encompassed, as stated by Ibn Khallikān.

He is the one who brought down the Fāṭimid State, established the pillars and foundations of the Ahl-us-Sunnah wal Jamā’ah in Egypt and Shām, and repelled the attack of the Second Crusade.

History books include information about this pious king, with regards to his steadfastness, his justice, his mercy towards the subjects, and his services to Islām and the Muslims. He produced great leaders like Ṣalāḥ-ud-Dīn Al-Ayyūbī, who is one of the fruits of Nūr-ud-Dīn.

This book is the first work devoted to the biography of this king, and it gathers the information about him independently. Its author is one of the great scholars of his time, the jurist of Shām Imām Badr-ud-Dīn bin Qāḍī Shuhbah (d. 874 AH).
